Though there are a number of sports specially conceived and designed for persons with disabilities, many sports for the disabled have simply been modified to fit the specifics of the athletes' disabilities. Among the more popular of these sports are baskteball, tennis, alpine skiing.
In conjunction with our corporate commitment to a total vision for the sports lifestyle of all our customers, XEBIO has placed collection boxes in our stores to support the Japan Sports Association for the Disabled.
We accept 1,200 (mostly elementary through high school) student interns from 200 schools annually to experience our working environment. These short-term interns get the chance to learn the value of work through tasks including unpacking, organizing, and shelving products. We also provide opportunities for university students to learn about the working world—about basic manners, communication, and professsionalism. We will continue to aggressively pursue opportunities to host internships of all kinds.
Since 2005, XEBIO has partnered with the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Fukushima University to offer the Fukushima University Business Academy. Cooperation between the academic and private sectors should help us develop new business models and raise a new generation of businesspeople with a wider perspective. The academic faculty is mostly drawn from Fukushima University. These professors teach the latest management theories using easy to understand examples drawn largely from the case of XEBIO. These courses aim to provide students with real-world knowledge and skills before they enter the business world. By opening these classes to the community, we hope not only to create a learning experience, but also to vitalize the local economy.
